mukti went to christchurch. this is exciting, but i am trying not to be too happy about it because she is insane and will probably come back in a couple of days. i'm still coming back to wellington after brisbane and working through the call centre contract. the yoga centre is closed for a month from 20 dec - 19 jan, and they have said i can stay here by myself during that time.
i'd like to be somewhere nice for either christmas or new years, but these are just arbitrary dates really.

i had in my grasp $50 grabaseat plane fares to gisborne from wellington for new years eve. this is why i'd go. i didn't buy them. i can say it's because my parents didn't actually put any money in my bank account for my birthday like they said they would and i was worried i wouldn't be able to get flights to/from chch by the 17th, but i'd be lying. i'm just incapable of making decisions. i'm sure i'll regret it in about 5 minutes.

ok, i regret it already. it would have been over $500 for one weekend of entertainment, though. that just seems frivolous. i could fly to samoa and sleep on the beach...

i need to go make lunch. faux-sausage rolls again. i'm starting to repeat myself. i need inspiration. or a better variety of ingredients. i pretty much just want a plate of pasta covered with olive oil, pine nuts, walnuts, feta, chopped basil, and sundried tomatoes. and i don't have a single one of those things.

bitch bitch moan moan.

i've finally started making sales targets at work. my communication & phone skills are seriously improving, by the day. theoretically, i'd rather die than be a telemarketer. i guess the things we hate to do are good for us, really..

I hope I'm just being overly critical of myself. I had to think exercising everyday for like five months somehow made me fatter or something. It's just every time I go to the doctor, they always mention I should get in better shape (for a variety of reasons).

And speaking of the doctor, doctor's visit today! That means blood test, which means getting stabbed with a needle, which means something close to passing out and throwing up. Fun times! D: I will never, ever, ever get used to it.

On Friday I roasted 2 chickens. I also roasted a head of cauliflower, steamed some asparagus, and made hollandaise sauce to go on the asparagus. Hollandaise sauce, if you've never had it, is basically like mayonnaise because it's an emulsion of egg yolks, acid, and fat. Unlike mayo though, it has a bright tangy taste from lemon juice (instead of the kind of neutral tang of vinegar) and is deliciously buttery (because it uses melted butter instead of oil). This was my first time making the sauce. The authors of MtAoFC recommend making the sauce by hand first because "part of every good cook's general knowledge is a thorough familiarity with the vagaries of egg yolks under all conditions." There is a recipe for the sauce using a blender which "is well within the capabilities of an 8-year-old child," but being a good cook I wanted to be familiar with the vagaries so I made it by hand. Besides you can only beat in half the butter using the blender. The thing I love most about this book is how thorough it is. Not only do you get two techniques for making the sauce but if you need to know how to make it so it will stand up to being kept warm for a while or if you screw it up and it separates or curdles, there are tips for that. And tips for how to keep it warm, how long you can store it in the fridge, how to heat it up if you freeze or refrigerate it, and how you can use leftovers. They know you are probably going to get distracted and mess it up or have leftovers that you're not sure how to use, so they go ahead and tell you everything you need to know. /gushing Anyhow it was a scrum-diddly-umptious dinner.

The next morning I used leftover hollandaise to make eggs benedict. I've never poached an egg in my life, but Pia recommended using these poach pods which I found at Bed, Bath & Beyond. They were very simple; I'm inclined to believe they are much simpler than actually poaching an egg in simmering water. The only problem is I think the poach pods enable the egg to cook from the bottom up, so that by the time the white on top is set, the yolk is thickened and partially cooked. I prefer the yolk to be over easy, so when you poke it lots of runny yolk pours out to mix with the hollandaise. However, being that it is simple and the yolk was still soft and slightly runny, it'll do. I savored the fruits of my labor while sitting in my PJs and bemoaning the disaster area in my kitchen.

But now the kitchen is half clean and when I feel like making a royal mess again, my next task will likely be tackling a recipe for black and white cookies. They're really a Northern thing. I remember first seeing Martha Stewart make them on her show ages ago, but you don't see them at all in the South. I only had my first one maybe a year ago and have been a little obsessed ever since. Now I usually eat at least half of one (even if it's a kinda crappy manufactured one from a gas station) whenever I visit John.

"The rich ... divide with the poor the produce of all their improvements. They are led by an invisible hand to make nearly the same distribution of the necessaries of life which would have been made, had the earth been divided into equal proportions among all its inhabitants."

1.- wanted: qualified people! now!

The presence of extra structure relates these types of groups with other mathematical disciplines and means that more tools are available in their study. Topological groups form a natural domain for abstract harmonic analysis, whereas Lie groups (frequently realized as transformation groups) are the mainstays of differential geometry and unitary representation theory. Certain classification questions that cannot be solved in general can be approached and resolved for special subclasses of groups. Thus, compact connected Lie groups have been completely classified. - Group theory.

Note: a list for internal purpose. I am trying to find different psychological construct from what MdM is normally doing. Usually the process is finding obvious musical connection to give strong coherency then staple a theme onto it. It’s been very fruitful technique but in a way, it’s also gotten a bit mundane. The usual result certainly can strongly emote, but it is static. So I am trying to create a series dedicated to explore aspects beyond the usual method to put list together (relationship between rhythm, melody, mode, etc). I don’t know what yet, this could be a simple directionless exploration. The list above certainly has that feels, compared to other lists it feels different. There is that “something different, but not sure what.” feel. I cheated and put in slower tempo and comfy key progression, but I don’t think it’s a simple random collection of pretty songs. Basically, the softer tone is intentional to help me find out if there is something more to the usual method. Something to do I suppose. Hey, with the way things are going this could end in MdM only needing to do single post for entire next decade that one can play over and over. We are hopelessly lazy, but at least we are trying to do in style. (haa haa, cough cough.)

The music. Espers is from standard mdm psychdelia palette. The latest album by Hope Sandoval, An art album by Sufjan Steven, and a big collective song album containing favorite indie rock artists “Dark Was The Night”. All worth exploring. Walter Meego is a crazy little disco rock album. They are all highly recommended albums. So if this project fails, at the very least we end up knowing bunch of good albums.

Subject:Imaginary soundtrack for a David Lynch movie.
Time:10:53 pm.

Photo: Sandboy.

You almost never from a Lynch movie get the sense that the point is to “entertain” you, and never that the point is to get you to fork over money to see it. This is one of the unsettling things about a Lynch movie: You don’t feel like you’re entering into any of the standard unspoken and/or unconscious contracts you normally enter into with other kinds of movies. This is unsettling because in the absence of such an unconscious contract we lose some of the psychic protections we normally (and necessarily) bring to bear on a medium as powerful as film. That is, if we know on some level what a movie wants from us, we can erect certain internal defenses that let us choose how much of ourselves we give away to it. The absence of point or recognizable agenda in Lynch’s films, though, strips these subliminal defenses and lets Lynch get inside your head in a way movies normally don’t. This is why his best films’ effects are often so emotional and nightmarish

This playlist has been on the motel’s vault for ages. Recently a reader requested a spy-themed playlist and I think this one just might fit the bill, so I’ve decided to rescue it and give it another shot before it gets completely lost into oblivion.
It’s just a humble tribute to David Lynch’s work,  a playlist which could match the aesthetic of most of his films: eerie atmospheres, discreet violence and smokey, erotic overtones. In keeping with the personality of Lynch’s film the songs move in between noir sensibility, delicate siren calls and a little hint of kitsch. I hope you enjoy.

When I'm waiting to fall asleep, I'm usually thinking of lots of drawing/comic ideas and such. The problem is that by the time I wake up, I remember just enough to know that I had a nifty idea, just not what the idea actually was.

Also, hey, daylight savings time? Stop screwing me up, thanks. Why do we even still have daylight savings time? It's stupid and it's dumb and I hate it. >:[

On the getting kicked out moving out because I want to front:
Okay, so... I have no idea what I'm doing. Like I mentioned before, the only time I moved out before, it was just a short drive from home, so I basically had a giant saftey net. But with nobody to stay with here, and wanting to move across the country, I guess that's no saftey net this time.

Sooo, I need help. Someone said I'd probably have to end up crashing on someone's couch for a little while, only I feel like a huge jerk for even asking that. I still have a bunch of stuff to take care of first, but is there anyone in or around New York City who can help me out? I'm just not sure with what yet. Probably a couch to crash on, help finding a job, helping to show me around...?

Like I said, I'm sort of flying blind on this, and I'm not really sure what I need or what's asking too much, but it never hurts to ask, right? D:
